Role purpose

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Nordics & Northern Europe Team as a Senior Claims Executive, predominately dealing with P&I work with the option of also doing FD&D work where qualified. In this role, you’ll be responsible for handling many different claims, from notification to completion. Overtime, and with support, we encourage our claims team to foster direct relationships with our membership, to handle claims with independence, liaising closely with members and management to achieve the best possible outcome and provide the best quality claims service in the market. Commerciality and speed of response are key to this role.  

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Handle a high volume and variety of claims, including complex and high-value matters, ensuring efficient and cost-effective resolutions.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of company-wide, functional, and sectoral rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with Members and brokers, ensuring high levels of service.
  • Estimate P&I claims promptly and in accordance with procedures.
  • Settle third-party P&I claims economically, following the rules and Member’s Terms of Entry.
  • Appoint and critically evaluate advice from lawyers, surveyors, consultants, and correspondents.
  • Issue security within procedures, financial authority limits, and with Member’s approval.
  • Ensure regular, accurate, and timely reporting to the Head of P&I Claims on new and developing claims.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in FD&D, Underwriting, and Loss Prevention to identify risk trends and manage relationships.
  • Support business development activities, mentor and manage colleagues, and share knowledge with less experienced team members.

About you

Skills/Qualifications/Experience

Essential

  • Degree (preferably in Law) OR equivalent (e.g. Master Mariners Certificate) OR experience gained handling claims in a P&I club or shipping company.
  • Understanding of the P&I insurance industry, and experience handling P&I claims.
  • Understanding of P&I Rules and integrated Claims Department Procedures
  • Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage demanding workloads
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake IG PANDIQ exams or read IG PANDIQ material where the material is relevant to the role
  • IT proficiency
  • Ability to assist with cases in a controlled, efficient and cost-effective manner
